Petition breaks 30,000 mark, and shows no sign of stopping
The national petition for marriage sped past the 30,000 mark this morning, and it shows no sign of stopping. Thousands upon thousands of ordinary people from across the nation are signing up to show their support for marriage.
Campaign Director Colin Hart said: “The petition which was launched just a few days ago has already been signed by over 30,000 people who share our concerns. This is a clear sign to the Government that the British public back traditional marriage.
“I hope it acts as a wake-up call to the Government that they will not be able to redefine marriage by stealth and that they must hold a real consultation asking whether this change should be made.”
He added: “The Government seems to think that rewriting 800 years of legislation is easy, cheap and will not have any negative consequences. They are wrong.
“The proposal by the Government is profoundly undemocratic. It was not in any of the main parties’ political manifestos and will trample people’s most deeply held values, putting those with a contrary view on the wrong side of the law.”
