‘Polygamous family’ legally recognised in Colombia

The first ever ‘polyamorous family’ has been legally recognised in Colombia after three men were ‘married’ in a ceremony in Medellín.
The men then signed legal papers with a solicitor, and released a video to Colombian media.
Victor Hugo Prada, one of the three, said in the video: “We wanted to validate our household… and our rights, because we had no solid legal basis establishing us as a family.”
Same-sex marriage was legalised in Colombia last year, the fourth South American country to do so.
Throughout our campaign in England and Wales, C4M highlighted the potential consequences of redefining marriage.
We warned of the very real threat that polygamy or ‘group marriage’ would be the next battle ground.
As we’ve seen in Colombia, polygamy followed same-sex marriage.
We must be alert to stop the same thing happening here.
