Interview: Steve Beegoo on schools draft gender guidance

In this week’s interview, I discuss the Government’s draft gender guidance for schools with Steve Beegoo, Head of Education at Christian Concern. Steve raises critical points about the current approach to gender identity in education, where it’s often taught as separate from biological sex, and as an undisputed fact. The draft guidance introduces a welcome shift by labelling gender ideology as “a contested belief”. Steve tells me this change is encouraging, signalling a potential move towards a more evidence-based approach in schools. Steve emphasises the risk of sidelining parents in discussions about their children’s identity, highlighting the importance of their involvement.

This issue points to the challenge of ensuring educational content remains unbiased, grounded in fact, and that teaching around the benefits of marriage has its rightful place.
