REJECTED FOR SUPPORTING MARRIAGE: FELIX’S FIGHT CONTINUES

Sep 14, 2024

Felix Ngole joins me to share an update on his ongoing legal battle, which many of you will remember from previous communications. You can listen to his account of this latest troubling development in our brief discussion available here.

In a complex judgement, a recent Employment Tribunal upheld an organisation’s decision not to hire Felix due to his belief that “marriage should be between a man and a woman”. The employer argued that some clients might find his views offensive if they became aware of them. This ruling stands, despite there being no evidence that Felix has ever acted, or would act in a discriminatory manner toward anyone.

Felix intends to appeal this ruling with the help of the Christian Legal Centre. His case is not merely about defending Christian beliefs or even real marriage supporters in general (C4M supporters come from all faiths and none). As he says, “If we get intimidated and just go home… Injustice will flourish.” The implications extend far beyond this issue—they concern freedom of thought and expression in a democratic society.

The freedom to express views about marriage is the ‘canary in the coal mine’ for broader freedoms in society. Those who seek to silence the right to champion real marriage would likely erode other fundamental rights, given the chance. That is why this case is so important. We wish Felix every success as he continues his fight.

C4M is here not only to support the cause of real marriage but also to defend the freedom to believe and advocate for it. There has never been a more important time to stand for that which underpins a flourishing society—real marriage.
