CAPTURING THE FLAG – MAUREEN’S LATEST VICTORY FOR MARRIAGE

Sep 28, 2024

Maureen Martin is a courageous campaigner for real marriage who has won another huge victory for the cause. She continues to challenge overreach, and defends the values of man-woman marriage, regardless of personal cost. You can watch my full interview with her here.

As some of you may recall, Maureen won a legal battle after losing her job for expressing support for real marriage during a local election. Yet, as she discusses in our interview, her resolve didn’t stop there.

In her latest confrontation, Maureen took issue with Lewisham Council’s decision to fly the ‘progressive’ Pride flag during the recent election cycle. She explains to me: “It was Pride month, but it was also an election month… they were being partial in promoting views that not all parties or individuals in their boroughs agreed with, which is against legislation.” Working with support from the Christian Legal Centre, Maureen was clear that her local authority had no legal grounds to endorse such politically charged symbols, especially during an election. After challenging the Council and threatening legal action, the flags were promptly removed.

The victory is not just a win for her, but for anyone concerned with how political symbols are seeping into public spaces, especially when they undermine real marriage. As she points out, “We have to defend the foundations of our society, and that is marriage – when marriage breaks down, society breaks down.”

This case sets a significant precedent. As Maureen’s stand in Lewisham shows, one person can hold the State accountable when it oversteps its bounds. In a political climate where these symbols are becoming more commonplace, we hope other local authorities face similar challenges.

At C4M, we know that real marriage is under increasing attack from political agendas and cultural shifts. Vigilance is essential to protect the principles that underpin a healthy and thriving society. Maureen’s actions remind us that every voice counts in defending the truth about marriage. This fight is far from over, and each of us has a part to play in safeguarding the institution of marriage for future generations.
