THE TRAGIC CONSEQUENCES OF IGNORING MARRIAGE
We write consistently about the evidence-based benefits of real marriage to individuals, children, and society. Yet, the Government’s guidance on Relationships and Sex Education ignores these crucial insights.
Instead, schools more often introduce children to sexually explicit material, presenting consent as the sole guiding principle while neglecting restraint and commitment. Academics such as Prof David Paton point out that the more children are exposed to sex education, the more likely they are to engage in sexual activity.
Could anyone better illustrate the tragic consequences of this approach to teaching than Lily Phillips?
Coming from a well-off, middle-class background in Derbyshire, the 23-year-old is now infamous as a social media ‘influencer’ who recently slept with 100 men in one night. Alarmingly, next February she plans to sleep with 1,000 men in 24 hours.
Her story has sparked media outcry, with even liberal journalists criticising what it reveals about society’s treatment of women, sex, and relationships.
At C4M, we know that stunts like Phillips’ are the antithesis of a healthy attitude to sex and marriage. Real marriage—the lifelong exclusive (sexual) union of one man and one woman—creates stable family life through sexual exclusivity and trust. When this bond is ignored or broken, the damage is profound.
Phillips’ story illustrates the tragic irony of a society outraged by her behaviour, yet complicit in promoting the notion that consent is the only constraint on sex. Yet, the public backlash against her actions shows there is still hope. The timeless values of monogamy and chastity still echo in our public consciousness. Perhaps it’s time we brought these values back into the classroom.
