Coming soon: A public vote on same-sex marriage in Australia

Australians are gearing up for a public vote on same-sex marriage in 2017.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has signalled that a national vote may take place early next year.
Such a plebiscite would not, however, be binding and politicians would still need to debate and review the issue.
Campaigners against redefinition are drawing much-needed attention to the importance of children in the debate.
“Same-sex marriage makes it impossible to assert that children, wherever possible, should be allowed to be loved and nurtured by their biological mother and father”, Lyle Shelton, Managing Director of Australian Christian Lobby has said.
The Australian Marriage Equality group is opposed to a public vote – despite claiming that a majority of Australians want same-sex marriage.
Sadly in the UK, we never had the opportunity for a public vote, plebiscite or otherwise.
Instead politicians ignored our petition of over two-thirds of a million names and pushed through the legislation anyway.
