MARRIAGE AND GREEN SHOOTS OF ENCOURAGEMENT – CIARÁN KELLY INTERVIEW
I had an encouraging conversation with Ciarán Kelly, the new Director of The Christian Institute, about the growing opportunities to champion real marriage today. Ciarán spoke about his late predecessor, Colin Hart, who was also Chair of C4M. He highlighted Colin’s work, the enduring value of marriage, and how we can continue to promote it effectively. I invite you to watch our full conversation here:
Ciarán is determined to continue championing “marriage between a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others for life”. We consider how the law is on the side of those who want to express their view that marriage should be between a man and a woman. While challenges exist, the law supports freedom of belief.
We discussed the evidence showing the many benefits of marriage, particularly for children and families. The financial disparities between married mothers and those who are not highlights the value of marriage. It contributes to stability, commitment, and wellbeing, offering benefits for everyone. Both secular and faith perspectives support marriage as a cornerstone of a thriving society.
Ciarán believes that younger generations could reclaim a higher view of marriage. “We’ve got a good message”, he says, “that marriage is between a man and a woman… it’s truth, and it’s a truth that’s worth standing up for”. He is optimistic that the benefits of marriage will resonate and inspire a renewed appreciation for its value. He also stresses the importance of living out good marriages to set a positive example for the next generation.
At C4M, we are committed to defending and promoting marriage as the lifelong exclusive union of one man and one woman. Alongside others like The Christian Institute, we’re championing real marriage in every corner of society. Together, we will make a lasting difference.
