Redefining Marriage Bill faces tough reception in Lords, says Peer
Today’s Daily Telegraph reports that independent Peer, Lord Dear, has taken soundings from colleagues about the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill. Peers are said to be unhappy about the Bill being shunted through the Commons without proper scrutiny.
And Peers have heard reports that, despite the pretence of a free vote, there was actually a lot of arm-twisting going on to force MPs to vote for the Bill. Lord Dear knows a thing or two about defeating the Government in the Lords (terror detention limits, free speech laws).
