THE BACKLASH CONTINUES AS NATIONAL TRUST BACKS DOWN

This past weekend saw an important victory for freedom to dissent from the same-sex marriage agenda.

The National Trust had forced its volunteers at Felbrigg Hall in Norfolk to wear multi-coloured badges and lanyards as part of ‘Prejudice & Pride’, a season of events promoting LGBT lifestyles. Those volunteers who refused to be told what to do were removed from their roles and banned from meeting the public.

Thanks to a public outcry, the Trust has now backed down. Volunteers will be able to resume their duties without being forced to wear the badges. This was a result of public pressure which led to at least 240 National Trust members cancelling their subscriptions in protest (link here).

This is an important line in the sand. The British public has shown itself to be firmly against people being coerced and forced to say things which they don’t believe.

Later this year, the Government will open two public consultations where similar issues of fundamental importance to our supporters are at stake.

The public will be consulted on proposals to allow people to choose their gender. Subsequent legislation could end up compelling people to act and speak against their conscience by requiring them to call a biological man a woman and vice-versa.

We will also be separately consulted on relationships education for primary schools in England, which could see children as young as five taught about same-sex marriage and transgenderism with no parental right of withdrawal. This removes freedom of conscience from parents when it comes to educating children and hands it to the state.
